Please RSVP by Sept. 10 at this link:听听

Join Autumn Wilke, associate chief diversity officer for disability resources, for a conversation about how self-advocacy skills, disability identity development, and access to support networks can impact a student鈥檚 engagement with accommodation processes. This session will direct our attention to why faculty and staff may encounter a wide range of presentations from students in navigating academic and employment accommodations. It will provide tools for how to work with students at various stages of development related to advocacy, identity, and support networks, and clarify how Disability Resources works with students across all four years to enhance these resources and skills. There will be an opportunity for large and small group discussion focused on improving the experiences of students with disabilities and on the range of resources and information available to faculty and staff who support them in their endeavors at 99精品视频 College.

The CTLA has an excellent Community Friday program scheduled this fall. Please view the list of events and presenters on our homepage at听Center for Teaching, Learning, and Assessment.

New Definition of Teaching Excellence Approved by Faculty

The Presidential Task Force on Evaluating Teaching Excellence proposed that the faculty endorse a new definition of teaching excellence and recommended that the Dean of the College use this definition in faculty reviews. The following definition was approved in the spring of 2024.

While teaching methods vary by discipline and instructor, broadly speaking, excellent teachers do the following:

  1. Build, maintain, and effectively apply expertise for the courses they teach
  2. Foster inclusive and engaging learning environments
  3. Clearly and effectively communicate to students learning goals and expectations that align with relevant departmental, disciplinary, or institutional learning outcomes
  4. Use pedagogies that are appropriate for the learning goals and context
  5. Respond to student work in a substantial, timely, and individualized way for the purposes of informing and improving the learning experiences of students
  6. Engage in a reflective process to enhance their teaching practices
