Alan Schrift鈥檚 scholarship focuses on 19th- and 20th-century French and German philosophy.聽 In addition to over 80 published articles or book chapters on Nietzsche and 20th-century European philosophy, he is the author of聽Twentieth-Century French Philosophy: Key Themes and Thinkers聽(Blackwell 2006; Choice Magazine Outstanding Academic Title),听Nietzsche鈥檚 French Legacy: A Genealogy of Poststructuralism聽(Routledge 1995), and聽Nietzsche and the Question of Interpretation:聽 Between Hermeneutics and Deconstruction聽(Routledge 1990). Most recently, he co-edited Transcendence and the Concrete: Selected Writings of Jean Wahl (Fordham 2016). 聽He was General Editor of the eight-volume聽History of Continental Philosophy聽(Acumen Publishing/University of Chicago Press/Routledge 2010), which was awarded Honorable Mention in the category of multivolume reference in the 2010 American Publishers Awards for Professional and Scholarly Excellence.聽 In 2019, he was elected to a three-year term as the Executive Co-Director of the Society for Phenomenology and Existential Philosophy (SPEP), the world鈥檚 largest scholarly organization focusing on European philosophy. 聽He currently serves as General Editor of聽The Complete Works of Friedrich Nietzsche, the Stanford University Press 19-volume translation of Nietzsche鈥檚聽Kritische Studienausgabe.
