Hewitt Recognized as Outstanding Intern

Michael Hewitt ’20 has been recognized as an Outstanding Intern by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE)ÌýOffice of Workforce Development for Teachers and Scientists. Hewitt interned two summers with Grant Johnson, a physical chemist at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL). Hewitt, along with Associate Professor of ChemistryÌýHeriberto HernandezÌýand fellow 99¾«Æ·ÊÓƵian Sophie Paek ’19, studied gold cluster synthesis with Johnson at the PNNLÌýin the summer of 2018Ìýthrough the DOE Visiting Faculty Program. Hewitt continued that research with Johnson for a second summer with a DOE Science Undergraduate Laboratory Internship. This collaboration led to two publicationsÌýfor Hewitt, Hernandez, and Johnson.
